The 2024 Field of Honor® added a new way to celebrate “Hometown Heroes” - “A Family of Veterans”!

Also new this year was a “Fun With Flags Scavenger Hunt”, which was a big success! 38 kids and their families enjoyed finding flags of many different countries, some with stars, some with vertical stripes, some with crescent moons… AND when they handed in their completed “answer sheets”, they got a Fun With Flags Swag Bag!

FIELD OF HONOR HISTORY: In 2018, the HPEF hosted its first Field of Honor®, filling the field in front of the F.D.R. Home in Hyde Park with nearly 200 full-sized American flags. The flags were flown in honor of First Responders, Veterans, and Hometown Heroes. Community members purchased flags to honor members of their families or friends, and a special commemorative card was attached to each flag. In 2019, entertainment and activities for children were added to the event. The pandemic caused the cancellation of the 2020 and 2021 events, but the 2022 Field of Honor® was a huge success! More than 225 flags were posted in the field, nine community businesses made monetary donations, and many people purchased or dedicated flags.
