What We Do

What we do

The mission of the Hyde Park Education Foundation is to provide financial support to individual schools and district-wide programs and activities that encourage and enhance the educational opportunities and well-being of the students of the Hyde Park Central School District. The HPEF supports and sponsors many different projects in our schools and community. Here are some examples of “ What We Do”:

IN THE SCHOOLS - Hygiene closets

Several years ago, the HPEF began collecting donations for the Hygiene Closets in the schools of the Hyde Park School District. The school nurses gave us their needs and suggestions, and HPEF board members joined with community members who donated items. The HPEF got help from the Staatsburg Library, which was a dropoff spot for donated items. The need is never gone, it only changes with the seasons, so please donate when you hear the HPEF asking for help with the HYGIENE CLOSETS!

IN THE SCHOOLS: TEACHER GRANTS

In 2019, the HPEF gave Educational Grants to five teachers in the Hyde Park School District, totalling $5234.00, and helped students from Kindergarten through high school. In 2020, two teachers received $1410.00. 2021 was not good for any of us, but in 2022, the HPEF gave a total of $5000.00 to all of the Hyde Park schools, divided equally among the schools, based on student population. The schools were tasked with imagining a project that would benefit the entire student population, then planning and carrying out the plan, and reporting back to HPEF with their results. The Haviland grant, led by Erin Daniels and Karin Armstrong, was to build a garden behind the cafeteria. The Violet Avenue grant went toward purchasing a Book Vending Machine. In 2023, the HPEF will be repeating this school-based grant, then revert back to the Teacher grants in 2024. 2019 Teacher Grant recipients: Juliet Boone, Special Education teacher, FDRHS; Catherine Lang, Orchestra teacher, HMS; Laura Collins, Grade 2 teacher, NPE; Mary Langenau, Grade 2 teacher, NPE; Joan Magnuson, Elementary teacher, and Anne Marchetti, Teacher Assistant, NPE 2020 Teacher Grant Recipients: Mary Langenau, Grade 2 teacher, NPE; Laura Collins, Grade 2 teacher, NPE
